I had purchased this flower at a nursery last Saturday.  It’s a Bracteantha, better known as a Straw Flower.  I took this shot right after watering it so that’s where the water droplets came from.  I ended up changing the background because I wasn’t happy with it and liked it on the black better.

Last weekend we went to the Overland Park, KS Arboretum.  Quite the beautiful place.  They had 3 different fairly good sized waterfalls and this is the first one.  It’s a 2.5 second shot to get the water to look as it does.  I also used a neutral density filter to be able to do the long exposure.

Here is a Grape Hyacinth shot from earlier this spring being photo bombed as they say by a honey bee.  Liked this one because you can see the wings.  Bees and butterflies are slowly coming back after the big cold snap and snow.

The Baltimore Orioles are fully back.  They are eating jelly like crazy.  We have 5 of them at least this year!  I have to feed them jelly twice a day and also have an orange half out for them.  They are very cool to watch but very skittish and difficult to get a shot of.  This one turned out rather well in spite of that.

We finally had a beautiful sunset in late April.  This was on April 28.  The sky was glowing red quite nicely.

These are some tulips that I love with the light and dark pink.  I shot this trio of them.  Tulips are just about done now so glad other things are beginning to bloom again.

I got this shot a little while ago after it had rained of droplets on clover leaves.  I was using a ring flash and if you look closely at the water droplets you can see reflections of tiny rings of light.  Remember you can always click on a photo to see it larger.

Black & White,Railroading — @ 4:42 pm

.
Time for another railroading shot.  This is one I took a couple of years ago at Georgetown Loop in Colorado.  I converted it to B&W and I liked the old time feel it gave to it.It was about to rain the day we were there and the treatment makes the sky even more dramatic.

We had a bird visit last week that isn’t usually found in our area.  This is a White Crowned Sparrow.  They are usually found further south of us but this guy was around for at least a couple of days.  Haven’t seen it since so might have moved on.  I loved his little black and white cap.  Very different looking.  I upped the contrast a bit to bring him out against the Safflower seed shells he was standing in.

I took this shot a couple weeks ago when the Ornamental Pear trees were really blooming at their best.  I got this shot as the sun was setting.  I thought it turned out pretty neat with the back lighting and bit of sun flare.
