I took this shot in West Virginia.Β  it’s of Rhododendron buds.Β  Those plants out there grow as big as trees.Β  It was amazing.Β  I have never seen them bigger than maybe 5 feet high and they usually look more like a shrub.Β  They were gorgeous with all the pink flowers all over them too.

I took this shot while we were in southern Missouri for a day last week.Β  It was a large group of what I think are Black Eyed Susans.

So last night we finally had some clouds in the sky, a chance for rain that went around us as usual.Β  At least it made for a lovely sunset sky.

This is a railroad shot I took while we were in West Virginia at the Cass Mountain Scenic Railway.Β Β  This is 2 of their Shay steam locomotives that pull you up the mountain at incredibly steep grades.Β  We were doing the same kind of grades in a train that we were in a car.Β  These engines are able to do it due to their weight and the way they are geared, very different than a normal locomotive.

This is another yellow sunflower I have in my garden.Β  Not quite what I expected.Β  I was thinking I was planting those really tall ones.Β  They are pretty though.Β  Did a macro of this one the other day.Β  I think they are good indicators of how hot it is out, like a little burning sun.

A friend of mine has a Barred Owl hanging out around her yard.Β  It’s so hot out it comes to visit her bird bath every now and then.Β Β  She had me come over the other evening to try and see it and I did!Β  I was so excited, have never seen an owl in the wild before like that.Β  Such cool birds.Β  I was able to get this shot of it which I liked a lot with the tree limbs framing it.

When we were in West Virginia we went to Babcock State Park.Β  They have a restored grist Mill there called the Glade Creek Grist mill.Β  It’s made up of, I believe, 3 old ones from around the area that were torn down for one reason or another.Β  It was a very lovely and picturesque place.

I find it kind of ironic that I was so sick of winter because it was just blah and brown and now summer is turning out to be basically the same.Β  This heat and crunchy grass.Β  UGH.Β  I felt the need for color!Β  This is another of the what I thought were rather unique irises that a woman in town had this spring.Β  I loved the kind of wine and yellow colors together.

I got this shot while we were in West Virginia at the Visitor’s Center to the New River Gorge bridge.Β  This is what I believe is a Pipevine Swallowtail.Β  There were several of them around and this was the best shot I got of one.

When we were in West Virginia on our travels, we stopped to see the New River Gorge Bridge.Β  It’s the 5th highest in the world and third highest in the US.Β  It’s also the third longest in the world.Β  It’s 1700 feet long andΒ  876 feet high.Β  It was the highest until 2004.Β  This was of vehicular bridges.Β  It was quite impressive to see and drive over as well.Β  It’s quite the way down when you see it in person.Β  :-)
