Here is a Grape Hyacinth shot from earlier this spring being photo bombed as they say by a honey bee. Liked this one because you can see the wings. Bees and butterflies are slowly coming back after the big cold snap and snow.

Captured this Honey Bee flying around the little Grape Hyacinths and doing some pollinating. Nice to see the bees out and about, really shows that spring is here though it doesn’t always feel like it this year.

I saw my first butterflies in the yard on Sunday. I saw a Mourning Cloak and then also this Red Admiral. It was very difficult to get photos, they did not sit very long in one spot. I hope the snow and cold that we had yesterday did not hurt them.

It’s actually pouring rain right now! Yay! We need anything we can get. I got this shot on Sunday of a Bumble Bee flitting around these Grape Hyacinths like crazy. Was hard to get a shot of as he wouldn’t stay still for long. Liked this one as you could see his wings and legs. Remember you can click for a larger view.

I got this image last weekend. It was kind of a surprise to see him. I was mainly trying to photograph the daffodils and then I saw this Bumble Bee. It was a bit chilly out so I am guessing this may be where he hung out for the night and was warming up before he went about his pollinating activities.

This is another shot of another Dryas Julia Butterfly that I was able to photograph at the butterfly house in Sioux Falls, South Dakota last June. These were very pretty and very accomodating butterflies as they would sit for a while and allow a photograph.

This is a Heliconius Butterfly that I was able to photograph in Sioux Falls, SD at the Butterfly house there last June. So lovely with the blue and white stripes. Not a color I was used to seeing. I played around with the image in Photoshop to drop the saturation of the background to make the butterfly stand out more.

This is a Dryas Julia Butterfly that I photographed in June at the Sioux Falls, SD butterfly house. I played around with this one a bit in Photoshop and took the vibrancy out of the leaves and left it in the Lantana flower and butterfly.

This is another shot I had taken back in June at the Sioux Falls Butterfly House. This is a Tiger Longwing Butterfly on a leaf. Not sure why I hadn’t shared before as it was a pretty decent capture I think.
