I got this shot a couple of weekends ago when I was out at Konza Prairie helping out for their bi-annual Vistors Day. I was taking some gate keepers to their gates for their shifts and we saw this part of the herd of bison. It was also a good shot of Konza Prairie in fall with the Sumac turning red in large patches.

I took this photo a few years ago after my husband was out mowing and he accidentally disturbed a rabbit”s nest. Fortunately, or not, both of the little bunnies were fine. This one was rather tame and allowed me to take it’s photo. The other one was rather feisty.  Enjoy the cuteness.

Since it’s supposed to be a real winter day here today I thought I would share something that was taken when it was really hot out. I had taken this on a visit to Mesa Verde National Park. We were waiting in line to see the cliff dwellings and this little guy caught my eye. I’m sure he thought he was well hidden. He does blend in very well with the desert surroundings. I’m pretty sure it was some type of skink as it was not very big.

This is a photo I took of a few of the bison out on Konza Prairie. This was actually taken last spring as there are still bits of snow on the ground. The brown dots behind them and on the hill to the left are a fairly large part of the herd.

I was out at Konza Prairie this past Saturday and we were out on the Bison loop and actually got to see some. At times you can go and they are all down in the valley and you don’t see any. This photo has had quite a bit of work done to it because I was shooting through a fence from a car. I had tried to get out earlier and they moved away so I had to stay put and shoot through the fence. This is a calf from this year so doesn’t have any ear tags yet.

Today’s photo is not that spectacular but I wanted to share because I thought they were so cute. When we were in Cheyenne Mountain State Park in Colorado Springs, at the entrance there was this prairie dog town. All these little guys were running around in and out of their holes. While I don’t want them burrowing in my yard they were very cute and fun to watch. I decided on this pic even though I had a few closer ones because there were so many in it.

This is a photo I took in Minnesota a couple of weekends ago. This ground squirrel was running along and I went to quick take his picture thinking he would run away but he kept coming closer to me instead. He was then nice enough to pose for me as well. I played with the depth of field on this a bit to make him stand out better from the grass.

We were at Konza Prairie early in the spring, there was still a bit snow on the ground as you can see in this shot. The bison happened to be up close on this particular day, you never know if you will actually get to see them. There are 3 males in this photo and 1 female. You can tell by their horns. Male bison horns go up away from their head while females curve in towards it. Also, on my soap box for a moment, these are bison not buffalo. The name buffalo was given to them incorrectly way back when they were first seen here in the US. The buffalo is actually a totally different species. It reminded them of the buffalo they had seen so they named them that. Places like Konza Prairie are trying to promote the correct name for them but it’s been a slow process because buffalo has been used for so long. I used a shadow fill on this shot because the sun was somewhat low and their faces had heavy shadows on them.
